Red Wheelbarrow Writers Collaborate on Third Anthology

What started with a handful of poets writing COVID-19-related poetry and the effects of being in quarantine during National Poetry Writing Month in April quickly evolved into a desire to combine the works into an anthology. Red Wheelbarrow Writers third publication and first book of poetry, This Uncommon Solitude, will be published by Sidekick Press on November 1, 2020. The group will have a virtual launch through Village Books on November 20, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. Online event link: https://www.crowdcast.io/e/red-wheelbarrow/register.
This Uncommon Solitude captures the myriad and diverse experiences during these times of quarantine and the COVID-19 pandemic. For many of us, poetry has helped connect us, one to another, as we share experiences and insights, express our grief and sadness, fears and pain, gratitude and hope. Encouraged by poets Susan Chase-Foster, Victoria Doerper, and Joe Nolting, typical prose writers in the group took up the challenge to harness their inner poets. This Uncommon Solitude is the result of a true collaboration, created with tenderness for a tender time in history.
Paul Hansen of Village Books says, “I’m heartened by both how Red Wheelbarrow Writers continues to bring together and give voice to writers. These poems range from profundity to grief and yes, to humor, and all give fresh perspective to this time, demonstrating the universality of our individual experiences.”
The Red Wheelbarrow Writers group hosts a virtual community of writers bearing witness to this viral isolation, these unfolding crises, through words and images, emotions and spirit. They see their role as chroniclers and interpreters of these unprecedented times. In exquisite detail and broad concept, their words convey anguish and hope, power and humor, despair and loveliness. They hope each poem brings to you the exceptional gift of connection during this time of isolation and change.
